Slaughterday Festival @ The Purple Turtle
Subversion were lucky enough to attend an all day metal gig at the Purple Turtle on 20th July, organised by Slaughterhouse Promotions. Considering most of the bands were unsigned there wasn't a bad turn out for a Sunday afternoon. Most of the bands had quite a lot of support and all put on a decent performance. We caught six out of the eight bands. Highlights of the day were the Sons of Merrick, Inner Rage and Dead Existence. The first band we caught was Nebukadnezza, this death metal style band impressed us most with their use of a fretless bass but the sound was not perfect. The third band, Dead Existence, performed well and contrasted well with a doom style sound and lots of noise. The Sons of Merrick gave us a laugh and the stoner style created an awesome atmosphere. Inner rage provided us with a grindy gore fest which we enjoyed, the talents of the bassist and the drummer stood out to us.
The purple turtle is a good venue in a prime location. It was an ideal venue for the Slaughterday festival bringing in a fair few metal fans. It is not often that you find gigs with this many smaller metal bands in one venue, we were thoroughly entertained.
