On Wednesday 9th July, five bands performed at the Water Rats in Kings Cross. Subversion went to see Rebel Yell, but we also caught Viva Machine, Mills, and To the Bones, the night finished with Nixa.

Viva Machine weren't bad but the vocalist seemed to let the sound down, his sound didn't quite seem to fit in. Overall the band worked well together, especially with the synths and the bassist knew what he was doing.

The second band to play, Mills, seemed to attract a much larger crowd but they seemed quite slow and a little dull. For what they were they kept time and performed together but it just didn't get our adrenaline pumping.

To the Bones were good although the crowd slackened off quite a bit. It was a shame because they put on a good performance but the vocalist/guitarist didn't have as many people to perform to as he should, he was able to walk and dance around the pit without people getting in the way.

Rebel Yell performed well. The vocalist also played the double bass and this produced a great effect. The crowd responded well and people were dancing and singing about to the set. They all put in a really good performance and sounded better than the recorded version of their tracks we had heard previously.

The Water Rats is fairly small but a decent venue for bands with smaller audiences, the sound wasn't bad for a pub but it is well known for it's gigs. They also have a good selection of beers, they even serve Leffe.
